RI-GOV: WEYGAND RUNNING????
I love being in public service and particularly like my work at my alma mater, URI. I have been asked frequently to consider running for governor. Indeed, it is very flattering but I think it is very early to consider such campaign. We are already in a full presidential campaign and there is still another 17 months til the election. It’s far too early to make such a decision although I admit I have thought about it.
Consider that door wide open! No doubt the labor movement will be pleased with a pro-labor candidate eying the race. Adding Weygand’s name to this list of possible 2010 gubernatorial candidates we now have: AG Patrick Lynch, Mayor David Cicilline, Treasurer Frank Caprio, Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts, former Lt. Gov. Charlie Fogarty and Bob Weygand.
Interesting note. The “first quarter” of fundraising for the 2010 race yielded impressive numbers for Cicilline. You can click on each name below to see their campaign finance report:
- David Cicilline - Raised $246,000 and has $225,000 on hand
- Frank Caprio - Raised $162,000 and has $151,000 on hand.
- Patrick Lynch - Raised $9,000 and has $3,000 on hand.
- Elizabeth Roberts - Raised $1,500 and has $2,300 on hand.
- Charlie Fogarty - Raised $300 and has $900 on hand.
