Willie Geist and Katie Couric
There is nobody, no one, better at the news than Katie Couric. LOVE HER. I wouldn't miss an opportunity to watch the CBS News program every night at 6:30 with Katie. Changes she has made are good ones. They have great appeal to me, and if left alone for the rest of the viewing news public to appreciate them, Katie may be ok, ratings-wise, in a year or two. The thing is the NEW always takes time to percolate to the top and that will happen for Couric. She's the best.
A quick way to add pizzaz to the program is to add Willie Geist. He's the producer on the Tucker show, and he's intelligent, attractive, and has the ability to deliver with gravitas and with good humor. This guy would be a great addition to Katie's program.
He's the only reason the Tucker program is keeping afloat these days...believe me on that one.
NBC hasn't made the big move for Willie Geist, maybe CBS should.
Willie mentioned the other day that his job is basically that of producer for Tucker, but the short time that he is on the air ....well, let's just say VERY IMPRESSIVE....
If Willie would rather remain a producer, that's fine, but some one should ask him if he wants more airtime...he is absolutely GREAT.

The issue with Couric is that she is America's Girl. She doesn't have a reputation as a hard-nosed journalist and face it, those who watch the evening news religiously want to get their news from someone who can sit down with anyone and go toe-to-toe with them.
Katie hasn't proven her metal to that audience. You may love her smile, laugh and personality, that works wonderfully for GMA but not on the news.
She is more than two million viewers behind the top spot, they will be hard pressed to make up that ground. But they are paying her $15 million a year to do it.
Kaplan's Clinton connections are what have me concerned.
